A ScriptableObject is a data asset: a C# class saved as a file in your project, editable in the Inspector, and shared by reference instead of copied onto every object. Weapon stats, enemy definitions, dialogue lines, level configs, and even game events belong in ScriptableObjects, which is why they show up in every professional Unity codebase and in almost no beginner project.
