Your kid already plays Roblox

Playing games in reasonable amounts is healthy, and it does more for a developing brain than most parents give it credit for. I'm not going to tell you to take Roblox away. The question I'd ask instead is what happens to all those hours. Your child is already spending them inside Roblox, so why not turn that into a skill they can use in the real world as they get older?

Roblox makes the jump from playing to building look small, because Roblox Studio is free and every game on the platform was made in it. That is also where most kids stall on their own. They paste a script from a video or drop in a free model from the Toolbox, it breaks, and they have no idea why. In a session your child writes the code themselves and I correct it while they write, so the hours turn into something they can keep.

What you're paying for

What your teen will build

These are their first three Roblox games, and each one is finished and playable. Each game adds the next thing they need to know, so by the third one they are building their own idea.

Roblox or Unity?

It depends on what your child wants. With kids, I don't think it's good to force them into anything, because my goal isn't only to teach them programming but also to guide them as they grow up. Their priorities and goals will likely change as they get older, so I follow what they are excited about now instead of pushing a plan on them.

If your child already plays Roblox and wants to build experiences for kids their age, Roblox is the best place to start. If they later see game development as a future career, Unity and C# are the next step, because a Roblox game stays inside Roblox. I tutor both, and the tutoring for teens page covers the Unity path.

How I work with students under 18

I tutor students 13 and older. If your child is under 18, please book the sessions yourself with your own email, so the Google Meet link and every confirmation come to you. You are welcome in any session, with no notice and no need to ask.

I don't record sessions, and everything outside the session goes through your email rather than a private channel with your child. You can reach me any time to talk about how they are doing, and if anything ever worries me, I will come to you first. If you would like to see a police clearance certificate before we start, just ask and I will send you one.

Who your teen will learn from

I'm Darko Tomic. I've tutored more than 20 students in Roblox, and I've worked as a game developer for 11+ years. Roblox games run on the same ideas as every other game, so what I teach comes from real projects, not from a course.

What I'm building now

Project DarkBlack

A realistic open-world driving game running on TOMICZ3D, a game engine I'm writing from scratch in C++. The video shows it growing from a few cubes on a grid into a mountain valley you can drive through.

What students say

Darko helped me finally see how a Unity project actually fits together. Instead of pointing me at a generic course, he looked at my own code and walked me through why certain patterns were holding me back. The sessions were direct and practical, and I walked away with real habits I still use.

Darko was a real help when I needed to just sit down with someone who knew what they were doing. Tutorials and forums only took you so much when you wanted to learn how to do something and learn best practices. What I picked up in quick LIVE sessions saved me hours of frustration. He knows what he is doing and is able to explain things clearly. Definitely worth it.

I was recently inspired to get deeper into game dev by some game ideas I made after years of only touching the surface level of Unity / C#. Darko has made it extremely easy to not only re-learn what I have lost, but also understand everything on a much deeper level. I strongly suggest giving this tutoring a go if you do well with having a mentor / teacher and want a surefire way of learning Unity.

How sessions work

Live, 1-on-1, and your teen is the one writing the code.

Buy sessions now, book them when your teen is free

You don't have to pick every time up front. Buy 4, 8 or 12 sessions, then book each one from your account when you know your teen is free. They stay on your account for 90 days, and if plans change, cancel at least 24 hours ahead and the session comes back. Packages start at $49.50 an hour and go down to $44 for 12 sessions.

Questions parents ask

If yours is not here, reach out and I will reply personally.

Does my child need to know how to code first?

No. In the first session we find out where your child is, and we start from there, even if they have never written a line of code.

Is Roblox coding real programming?

Yes. Roblox games are scripted in Luau, a version of the Lua programming language. Variables, functions, events and saving data work the same way they do in other languages, so what your teen learns carries over if they move to Unity and C# later.

Is this game design or game programming?

Game programming. Your child learns to write the code that makes a game work. Many people say game design when they mean making games, and that is what we do.

How long until my child can make games on their own?

It really depends on your child. Their experience and how consistent they are make the biggest difference. For the fastest progress I recommend 2 hour sessions three times a week, but that is not required.

Is there a refund if it is not a fit?

Yes. Full refund after the first session if it is not a fit. No questions. Your child gets one hour to see if how I work matches how they learn. If not, I refund and we move on.
