Game development
tutoring for teens

Live 1-on-1 lessons for kids 13 to 17, in middle school or high school. Your teen writes the code, and I correct it while they write. No coding experience is needed to start.

Or skip the intro and book a session.

Your kid already plays games

Playing games in reasonable amounts is healthy, and it does more for a developing brain than most parents give it credit for. I'm not going to tell you to take it away. The question I'd ask instead is what happens to all those hours. Your child is already spending them inside games, so why not turn that into a skill they can use in the real world as they get older?

The jump from playing a game to building one is smaller than it looks, but it's where most kids stall on their own. They install Unity, follow a tutorial, end up with someone else's finished project on their screen, and quit a week later without understanding any of it. In a session your child writes the code themselves and I correct it while they write, so the hours turn into something they can keep.

What you're paying for

Roblox or Unity?

It depends on what your child wants. With kids, I don't think it's good to force them into anything, because my goal isn't only to teach them programming but also to guide them as they grow up. Their priorities and goals will likely change as they get older, so I follow what they are excited about now instead of pushing a plan on them.

If your child already makes games in Roblox with Lua and wants to build experiences for kids their age, Roblox is the best place to keep going. If your child is more drawn to Unity and C#, or already sees game development as a future career, Unity is the better choice, because a Roblox game stays inside Roblox. I tutor both, so we start wherever your child is.

How I work with students under 18

I tutor students 13 and older. If your child is under 18, please book the sessions yourself with your own email, so the Google Meet link and every confirmation come to you. You are welcome in any session, with no notice and no need to ask.

I don't record sessions, and everything outside the session goes through your email rather than a private channel with your child. You can reach me any time to talk about how they are doing, and if anything ever worries me, I will come to you first. If you would like to see a police clearance certificate before we start, just ask and I will send you one.

Who your teen will learn from

I'm Darko Tomic. I've worked with Unity for 11+ years, and what I teach comes from real projects, not from a course.

How sessions work

Live, 1-on-1, and your teen is the one writing the code.

Questions parents ask

If yours is not here, reach out and I will reply personally.

Does my child need to know how to code first?

No. In the first session we find out where your child is, and we start from there, even if they have never written a line of code.

Do you teach Roblox, Unreal or Godot?

Yes. Besides Unity, I also tutor Roblox, Unreal and Godot.

Is this game design or game programming?

Game programming. Your child learns to write the code that makes a game work. Many people say game design when they mean making games, and that is what we do.

How long until my child can make games on their own?

It really depends on your child. Their experience and how consistent they are make the biggest difference. On average it takes about four months to get a basic understanding of Unity and C#, and about a year until they can develop games on their own. For the fastest progress I recommend 2 hour sessions three times a week, but that is not required.

Is there a refund if it is not a fit?

Yes. Full refund after the first session if it is not a fit. No questions. Your child gets one hour to see if how I work matches how they learn. If not, I refund and we move on.
